What is ACTology all about?
ACTology is a National science theatre competition, a unique initiative by Petrosains. Endorsed by the Ministry of Education, the competition is aimed at bringing science in schools to life through theatre. It is also aimed at nurturing students’ interest in science and developing their potential creatively.
Targeted at lower secondary students, the competition would test the students’ ability to creatively act out important discoveries or moments in science based on the theme: “Science of Energy: What does energy mean to you?”
The competition will be carried out regionally, offering great prizes for the regional winners, who will then pit their skills against other “science superstars” from all over Malaysia at the ACTology - national level competition in Kuala Lumpur in June 2008.

What are the requirements for schools to enter the competition?

We are given 30 minutes overall time. If our performance takes only 10 minutes, can we use the remaining 20 minutes for set-up and dismantling?
Yes, you can, as long as the duration of your performance does not exceed 15 minutes and the overall time on stage does not exceed 30 minutes.

Can my school send in more than 1 entry?
Yes, you can. Once received, all entries will be vetted. However, based on synopsis submitted, only one entry per school will be short-listed for the regional level competition.

My school has submitted our contest form. However, there’s a change in the name of one of the participants. Can we amend the information online?
Once a contest form is submitted, the ONLY change allowed is on participants’ information. In order to make such amendment, please call ACTology’s Hotline number on 1-800-88-1012 at least two(2) weeks before the regional level competition.

Can we change the synopsis after we have submitted our entry for the competition?
Each submission is deemed final and no change on the synopsis is allowed after its submission.

Can students from a combination of different forms join the group?
Yes. However, Form 3 students sitting for the Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) in 2008 are advised to consult their teachers and parents before taking part.

When will the schools know whether their entry has qualified for the regional level competition?
The schools will be informed by end March 2008; the regional level competition will start in May 2008. Check out the Rules & Regulations Page for more information.

What does “theatre” performance for ACTology include?
The theatre performance for ACTology can take on many forms. It includes but is not limited to acting/drama, mime, poetry, singing and dancing.

My school is in Labuan and we have been short-listed for the regional level competition in Kota Kinabalu. Will accommodation and transportation be provided for us?
Yes, accommodation and transportation will be provided for the participating team members (ie. 8 students & 2 teachers) from schools whose distance is at least 150km from the venue where the competition is held.
Any additional students or teachers from participating schools attending either the regional or national level competitions will have to bear their own accommodation and transportation expenses. |
